Hitachi Rail Canada is seeking a Software Analyst Intern to join the Vital Software Engineering team for a 12-month internship. You will work under the guidance of a senior software engineer to analyze and develop software, while supporting automation and testing activities within the organization's existing infrastructure. This role focuses on safety-critical railway systems and requires a proactive approach to software development and CI/CD pipeline enhancement.
What you'll do#
- Assist with software development and algorithm implementation for safety-critical systems.
- Develop software tools and scripts to enhance CI/CD pipelines by migrating solutions to a generic Hitachi Rail pipeline.
- Create fitness testing using Python, C, and wiki documentation based on software requirements.
- Document software solutions and create metrics and dashboards for management reporting.
- Adhere to company processes and procedures for developing vital software.
What you'll need#
- Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Engineering, Systems Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field.
- Strong technical proficiency in Python, C/C++, Shell scripting, JSON, and Groovy.
- Experience in a DevOps environment, including familiarity with Git, Bitbucket, Jira, Jenkins, and Artifactory.
- Hands-on experience using GitHub Copilot.
- Fluency in English with strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work effectively in a collaborative team environment.
Location & details#
- Location: Toronto, Ontario, Canada.
- Term: Fall 2026 (September 2026 – August 2027).
- Work Modality: Hybrid (minimum of two days per week in the office; the first month requires full-time onsite presence).
- Schedule: Full-time (40 hours per week).
- Status: Paid internship.
