About the role#
Hitachi Rail is hiring an HSE Intern to support our team in Batesburg-Leesville, South Carolina. This role focuses on promoting a safe workplace and assisting with environmental compliance. You will gain hands-on experience in occupational safety, risk assessment, incident investigation, and regulatory compliance programs during the Summer 2027 term.
What you'll do#
- Perform workplace safety inspections, audits, and behavioral safety assessments.
- Participate in hazard identification and risk assessment activities.
- Support investigations into incidents, injuries, near-misses, and property damage.
- Maintain HSE records, reports, and compliance documentation.
- Track corrective and preventive actions.
- Assist with employee safety training, awareness campaigns, and the creation of safety communications.
- Participate in emergency preparedness drills and exercises.
- Help with industrial hygiene activities like air and noise monitoring.
- Support environmental initiatives, including waste management and sustainability programs.
- Maintain Safety Data Sheets and chemical inventories.
- Assist with contractor safety oversight and review.
- Collect and analyze data related to safety performance metrics.
- Support the development of HSE policies and complete special projects assigned by the HSE Manager.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a Bachelor’s Degree program in HSE, Industrial Engineering, or a similar field.
- A graduation date between December 2027 and December 2028.
- Fluency in English, both written and verbal.

- Term: Summer 2027 (May through August).
