About the role#
As a Machining Co-op student, you will gain practical shop experience while contributing to real manufacturing work in Richmond, British Columbia. You will work alongside experienced machinists and fabricators to learn how quality parts are produced from technical drawings to finished products. This role focuses on strengthening your core machining skills and developing professional habits in a production setting.
What you'll do#
- Select tools, machines, and materials based on specifications, bills of materials, and work instructions.
- Machine parts using lathes, milling machines, grinders, and other shop equipment.
- Measure and inspect completed work using precision instruments like micrometers and verniers to ensure quality.
- Read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, and engineering information to determine fabrication steps.
- Maintain a safe, clean, and organized work area while following all safety procedures.
- Support general shop tasks and assist the team in meeting production expectations.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in the CNC Machinist program at BCIT.
- Basic knowledge of machining tools, equipment, and shop practices.
- Ability to read and follow blueprints, technical drawings, and written instructions.
- Mechanical and mathematical aptitude for handling measurements and tolerances.
- Willingness to learn, ask questions, and apply feedback.
- Ability to work independently with guidance and lift up to 50 pounds.

- Location: Richmond, British Columbia, Canada.
- Work Modality: On-site.
- Employment: Full-time, rolling term.
- Compensation: $25 - $27 per hour, based on experience and education.
