Mechanical - Master Tradesperson (SkillBridge Intern) - 18127

About the role#

This is an unpaid internship through the DoD SkillBridge Program, designed for transitioning active-duty U.S. military personnel. You will train as a Mechanical Master Tradesperson within HII-Mission Technologies, reporting to a designated supervisor. The program focuses on providing real-world experience, working closely with a mentor and senior leadership on meaningful projects.

What you'll do#

Over the course of this four-month internship, you will develop the skills to address mechanical challenges from design through testing. Your training will include:

• Designing, fabricating, and testing solutions to mechanical problems, and making alterations based on feedback.
• Learning the operation, configuration, and maintenance of auxiliary equipment, including high and low-pressure air compressors, air conditioning and refrigeration systems, pumps, purifiers, and steam water heaters.
• Performing valve repair, hydro-testing, and manufacturing gaskets.
• Maintaining quality control in accordance with the Joint Fleet Maintenance Manual and adhering to safe work practices, including required tag-outs.
• Reading and utilizing technical manuals, drawings, and PMS cards.
• Scheduling, reporting, and briefing customers and senior management on work progress.

What you'll need#

• Must be active-duty military personnel within the final 180 days of service (applications accepted within the final 12 months).
• Must possess a Confidential or higher security clearance.
• Education and experience requirements are dependent on the specific Program of Instruction.
• Physical requirements vary based on the Program of Instruction.
