About the role#
This is an unpaid internship through the DoD SkillBridge Program designed for transitioning active-duty U.S. military personnel. The role is based in Norfolk, Virginia, and provides an opportunity to train as a Mechanical Master Tradesperson within HII-Mission Technologies. Interns will report to a designated HII Supervisor and work closely with a mentor and senior company leadership on meaningful projects.
What you'll do#
Over the course of four months, you will develop the skills necessary to identify problems, design and fabricate solutions, test products, and implement alterations based on feedback. Your training will cover the operation, configuration, and maintenance of various equipment, including:
- Solid waste and processing equipment
- High and low pressure air compressors
- Air conditioning and refrigeration systems
- JP-5 service pumps and purifiers
- Steam water heaters and condenser cleaning
- Valve repair, maintenance, and hydro-testing
- Manufacturing gaskets
Additionally, you will learn to read technical manuals and drawings, maintain quality control in accordance with the Joint Fleet Maintenance Manual, establish safe work practices, and manage the scheduling and reporting of work progress to customers and management.
What you'll need#
- Must be active-duty military within your final 180 days of service (applications are accepted within the final 12 months).
- Must possess a Confidential or higher security clearance.
- Education and experience requirements are dependent on the specific Program of Instruction.
- Physical requirements vary based on the Program of Instruction.
