About the role#
This is an unpaid internship through the DoD SkillBridge Program, specifically designed for transitioning active-duty U.S. military personnel. The program provides an opportunity to gain real-world experience during the final 180 days of active-duty service. Interns will work closely with a mentor and senior company leadership on meaningful projects, with the goal of developing skills that facilitate a transition into a full-time, permanent role with HII.
What you'll do#
As a Hull - Master Tradesperson intern, you will train on the basics and principles of the trade. You will be assigned special projects and, over the course of four months, will develop the ability to:
- Analyze problems and design, fabricate, and test solutions.
- Perform equipment operations, configuration, and maintenance.
- Fabricate and test AFFF systems, watertight and airtight doors, hatches, and scuttles.
- Troubleshoot and repair damage control closures, valves, and pumps.
- Read blueprints and research Technical Manuals.
- Provide instruction to sailors on repair procedures and engage in customer interaction.
What you'll need#
- Must be active-duty military within the final 180 days of service (applications accepted within the final 12 months).
- Must currently possess a Confidential or higher security clearance.
- Relevant military training or experience is preferred.
- Ability to work during core business hours for critical meetings and training.
