About the role#
This is an unpaid internship through the DoD SkillBridge Program, designed for transitioning active-duty U.S. military personnel during their final 180 days of service. You will report to an HII supervisor and work closely with a mentor and senior leadership to gain real-world experience in the defense industry. The program aims to bridge military training with civilian roles, focusing on the development of skills necessary for a career as a Master Tradesperson.
What you'll do#
- Train on meaningful projects and complete assigned special tasks.
- Learn to operate, configure, and maintain hull equipment.
- Develop skills to identify problems, design solutions, fabricate components, test products, and refine work based on feedback.
- Gain experience in the fabrication and testing of AFFF systems, watertight or airtight doors, hatches, and scuttles.
- Troubleshoot and train sailors on the repair of damage control closures, valves, and pumps.
- Read blueprints and research technical manuals to support project objectives.
What you'll need#
- Must be active-duty military within the final 180 days of service (applications accepted within the final 12 months).
- Must currently possess a Confidential or higher security clearance.
- Background in Mechanical Engineering or Industrial Engineering is preferred.
