About the role#
As a Pharmacy Intern, you will work under the direct supervision of a pharmacist to support the hospital unit-dose drug distribution system and the intravenous admixture program. This role involves performing technical and clinical duties to help the pharmacy department run effectively while ensuring patient safety and regulatory compliance.
What you'll do#
- Assess medication orders for accuracy and appropriateness.
- Procure and distribute medication orders according to established protocols.
- Prepare, compound, and label IV medications, including antibiotics, cardiac drips, parenteral nutrition, and chemotherapy.
- Fill routine orders for unit-dose carts and prepackaged pharmaceuticals.
- Maintain pharmacy inventory by ordering, receiving, and storing supplies.
- Prepackage bulk medications into unit-dose packages.
- Process cart fill lists, pick lists, and refill medications.
- Assist with training new employees and students.
- Use computer systems to enter and retrieve data, generate labels, and handle phone inquiries.
- Participate in performance improvement and regulatory compliance efforts.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a School of Pharmacy or status as a foreign pharmacy graduate.
- Ability to obtain a Pharmacy Intern license in Pennsylvania within 120 days of your start date.
