About the role#
The Nurse Extern Program offers students the opportunity to gain clinical experience within Allegheny Health Network hospitals. This is a full-time, paid position for the Summer 2027 term. During the application process, you will be asked to rank your preferred hospital locations.
What you'll do#
- Perform daily clinical and patient care tasks under the direct supervision of a professional nurse.
- Demonstrate competency in clinical skills including hygiene, nutritional needs, vital signs, and specimen collection.
- Communicate patient data accurately to the care team.
- Manage your time to organize and prioritize patient care activities.
- Take responsibility for your own professional development.
- Complete other duties as assigned.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in an accredited nursing diploma or degree program.
- Expected graduation date in December 2027, Spring 2028, or Summer 2028.
- American Heart Association CPR certification.
- Act 34 Criminal Background Clearance.
- Act 33 Child Abuse Clearance.
- Act 73 FBI Fingerprinting Criminal Background Clearance.
