Hermeus is seeking a Structures/Mechanical Engineering Intern to support the design, build, and test of flight hardware for next-generation aircraft systems. This role focuses on mechanical subassemblies including control surfaces, fuselage structures, and avionics trays. You will take designs from concept through fabrication, integration, and testing.
What you'll do#
- Support the design and development of flight hardware and mechanical subassemblies.
- Assist with CAD modeling, drawing creation, hardware release, and design updates.
- Perform basic hand calculations and engineering analysis to support design decisions.
- Build, integrate, troubleshoot, and test prototype and flight hardware.
- Collaborate with structures, mechanical, manufacturing, avionics, and test teams to support vehicle development.
- Contribute to design reviews, test planning, and documentation of lessons learned.
- Identify design improvements and simplify hardware based on build and test feedback.
What you'll need#
- Currently pursuing a degree in Mechanical, Aerospace, Manufacturing, or a related technical field (third or fourth-year undergraduate, Master's, or Ph.D. student).
- Strong engineering fundamentals in statics, dynamics, mechanics of materials, and mechanical design.
- Hands-on experience with hardware via internships, research, labs, personal projects, or student teams.
- Familiarity with CAD tools and comfort working with physical hardware, hand tools, and test equipment.
- GPA of 3.0 or above.
- Ability to work cross-functionally and communicate effectively with engineering and manufacturing teams.
Location & details#
- Location: Atlanta, Georgia.
- Term: Fall 2026 (approximately 16 weeks, August through December).
- Modality: On-site, full-time.
- Compensation: Paid internship.
- Eligibility: Must be a U.S. person as defined by 22 C.F.R. § 120.62 for U.S. export control compliance.
