As a Structures Engineer Intern, you will work directly with design and production teams on the Mk 2.3 airframe. This role involves the full lifecycle of flight and test hardware, including design, manufacturing, integration, and testing. You will contribute to process development and vehicle assembly while supporting the transition of components from prototypes to repeatable production.
What you'll do#
- Contribute to the design, build, and test of flight and test hardware supporting the Mk 2.3 airframe.
- Translate structural design concepts into detailed CAD models, focusing on geometry refinement, material selection, and design-for-manufacturing (DFM) considerations.
- Support project planning and execution to help meet hardware delivery timelines.
- Identify opportunities to simplify designs, reduce part count, and improve assembly flow.
- Develop build processes, tooling concepts, and integration plans for structural hardware.
- Assist in developing and executing test plans and procedures for hardware validation.
- Collaborate cross-functionally with design, manufacturing, and test teams to support vehicle integration.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a STEM program at an accredited college or university, specifically as an undergraduate in your third or fourth year, or as a Master's or Ph.D. student.
- Hands-on experience designing, building, and testing vehicles through projects, studies, or previous internships.
- Strong understanding of engineering first principles.
- Familiarity with manufacturing processes such as machining, welding, and forming, as well as GD&T fundamentals.
- Proficiency with CAD, test equipment, and hand tools.
- Strong interest in vehicle hardware.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively within cross-functional teams.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- A GPA of 3.0 or above.
- Preferred experience includes designing and releasing flight hardware, familiarity with Siemens Teamcenter and NX, and leadership experience.
Location & details#
- Location: Los Angeles, CA.
- Modality: On-site.
- Commitment: Full-time.
- Terms: Summer 2026 (May–August) or Fall 2026 (September–December).
- Travel: Willingness to travel to test sites, other company offices, and partner locations as needed.
- Eligibility: This position requires access to information subject to U.S. export controls; candidates must be a U.S. person as defined by 22 C.F.R. § 120.62.
