    About the role#

As a Modeling & Simulation Software Engineering Intern, you will join the software team to develop high-performance code for 6 Degrees of Freedom (6DOF) Software-in-the-Loop (SITL) systems. This role focuses on building scalable simulation tools and physics-informed models that directly support the design and testing of high-Mach and hypersonic aircraft.

    What you'll do#

    • Develop performant simulation code for 6DOF SITL systems using Julia.
    • Build user-driven features with a focus on the scalability of Monte Carlo simulations.
    • Collaborate with Flight Software, HMI, and Flight Sciences teams to align simulation outputs with stakeholder requirements.
    • Design and implement physics-informed models that represent hardware behavior and system dynamics.
    • Validate simulation accuracy by comparing model outputs against real-world flight data and refining models.
    • Optimize simulation performance to ensure real-time execution across test environments.
    • Participate in code reviews, testing cycles, and document modeling assumptions and integration workflows.

    What you'll need#

    • Currently pursuing a degree in Computer Science, Aerospace Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Applied Mathematics, or a related technical field.
    • Proficiency in Julia or significant experience with scientific computing languages such as Python, MATLAB, or C++.
    • Understanding of 6DOF dynamics and simulation principles in aerospace or robotics.
    • Familiarity with modeling physical systems, including hardware-in-the-loop or physics-informed simulation techniques.
    • Experience with data validation and analysis comparing simulation outputs to real-world data.
    • Strong grasp of engineering first principles and a minimum GPA of 3.0.
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and the ability to work in cross-functional teams.
