About the role#
As a Machine Shop Intern, you will work alongside machinists, engineers, and technicians to support the daily operations of the machine shop. This role provides hands-on experience in the manufacturing of high-precision aerospace components and offers the opportunity to develop practical skills in CNC operation and aerospace production.
What you'll do#
- Support the operation of equipment including waterjets, laser cutters, CNC machines, lathes, mills, and grinders under the guidance of experienced team members.
- Learn to read and interpret technical drawings, blueprints, and CAD models to assist in the setup and production of parts.
- Perform in-process inspection and measurement of parts using precision tools such as calipers, micrometers, and gauges to ensure compliance with aerospace standards.
- Assist with machine setup and basic maintenance, including cleaning and tool changes.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to complete tasks and document production processes, measurements, and quality control checks.
- Adhere to all safety protocols and standards while operating machinery and handling materials.
What you'll need#
- Basic knowledge of machining processes and equipment, such as CNC, lathes, and mills.
- Strong attention to detail and the ability to interpret technical drawings and specifications.
- Proficiency in basic math and the use of measurement tools like calipers and micrometers.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively in a team-oriented environment.
- A strong interest in aerospace manufacturing and technology.
- Ability to work in a hands-on, physically demanding environment.
- Preferred: Familiarity with CAD/CAM software, Manufacturing Execution Systems, or specific machine controls like Haas, Okuma, Doosan, or Trumpf.
- Preferred: Experience with flat pattern programs or machine maintenance and troubleshooting.
