    About the role#

    The Mine Engineer Intern supports continuous improvement and capital project activities across 27 Indiana plant locations. You will apply technical and analytical skills to real-world operations challenges while working alongside operations, safety, sales, quality, and engineering teams. This role provides broad exposure to aggregate production environments through a defined summer project designed to drive measurable efficiency improvements.

    What you'll do#

    • Analyze daily operational procedures, performance metrics, and production trends to identify improvement opportunities.
    • Develop data-driven recommendations and prepare project justifications with supporting documentation.
    • Support incident investigations by contributing to root cause analysis and coordinating corrective action items.
    • Track continuous improvement activities to reduce recurrence of operational issues.
    • Collaborate with Plant Managers and the Quality Manager to review procedures and collect production data.
    • Contribute to strategies that optimize aggregate production performance.
    • Design and deliver a defined summer project, including a final presentation to leadership.

    What you'll need#

    • High School Diploma or equivalent.
    • Current pursuit of a Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Civil, or Mining Engineering. Sophomores, juniors, seniors, and recent graduates are eligible.
    • 1+ years of work or internship experience in a professional, technical, or trades environment is preferred.
    • Working knowledge of engineering principles.
    • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, specifically Excel and PowerPoint.
    • Working knowledge of AutoCAD or similar technical drafting and design software.
    • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
    • Demonstrated problem-solving and critical thinking abilities.
    • Self-motivation, organization, and strong time management skills.
    • Ability to work collaboratively across cross-functional teams.

    • Location: Indianapolis, Indiana, with frequent travel to plant sites across the state.
    • Term: Summer 2027.
    • Modality: On-site.
    • Employment: Full-time.
    • Physical requirements: Work involves desk-based analysis and active site walkthroughs. You must be able to lift, carry, or move equipment weighing up to 50 pounds. Site work requires exposure to dust, noise, vibration, and outdoor conditions, and the use of personal protective equipment is mandatory.
