About the role#
The Mine Engineer Intern supports continuous improvement and capital project activities across 27 Indiana plant locations. You will contribute analytical and technical skills to real-world operations challenges. Working alongside operations, safety, sales, quality, and engineering teams, you will gain exposure to aggregate production environments. This role includes a defined summer project designed to drive measurable operational efficiency improvements.
What you'll do#
- Analyze daily operational procedures, performance metrics, and production trends to identify efficiency opportunities.
- Develop data-driven recommendations and prepare project justifications.
- Support incident investigations by contributing to root cause analysis and coordinating corrective action items.
- Track continuous improvement activities to reduce recurrence.
- Collaborate with Plant Managers and the Quality Manager to review operating procedures and analyze production data.
- Design and deliver a defined summer project, including a final presentation to leadership.
- Communicate technical findings and recommendations to stakeholders.
What you'll need#
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Current pursuit of a Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Civil, or Mining Engineering (sophomores, juniors, seniors, and recent graduates).
- 1+ years of work or internship experience in a professional, technical, or trades environment is preferred.
- Working knowledge of engineering principles.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, specifically Excel and PowerPoint.
- Working knowledge of AutoCAD or similar technical drafting or design software.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Demonstrated problem-solving and critical thinking skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively across cross-functional teams.
- Self-motivated, organized, and capable of managing time effectively.
Location & details#
- Location: Indianapolis, Indiana.
- Term: Summer 2027.
- Modality: On-site, with frequent travel to plant sites across Indiana.
- Status: Full-time, paid internship.
- Physical requirements: Work involves desk-based analysis and active site walkthroughs. You must be able to lift, carry, or move equipment weighing up to 50 pounds. Site visits involve exposure to dust, noise, vibration, and outdoor conditions.
