About the role#
The Public Health Emergency Preparedness (PHEP) Intern will support the Marion County Public Health Department. You will gain hands-on experience by helping staff maintain operational readiness and contributing to the development of an emergency preparedness framework aligned with the National Incident Management System (NIMS).
What you'll do#
- Support operational readiness and emergency response activities.
- Assist with the preparation of reports and the updating of emergency plans and standard operating procedures.
- Participate in PHEP program activities, including training, exercises, drills, and real-time public health response operations.
- Support procurement tasks such as obtaining vendor quotes and compiling purchase orders.
- Help maintain the inventory of emergency supplies and warehouse equipment.
- Assist in the development and execution of training and exercise activities.
What you'll need#
- Current undergraduate (junior or senior year) or graduate student in public health or a related field.
- Knowledge of the National Incident Management System (NIMS).
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to remain calm and effective in high-pressure situations.
- Ability to lift up to 15 pounds occasionally.
