About the role#
This is a paid summer 2027 internship for students pursuing a career in respiratory care. You will work on-site at our Jackson, Mississippi location. This role focuses on gaining clinical experience by supporting licensed staff in a hospital setting.
What you'll do#
You will work under the direction of a Licensed Mississippi Respiratory Care Practitioner. Your daily tasks include:
- Providing technical assistance and patient care.
- Assessing patients and helping develop care plans.
- Implementing and evaluating care plans.
- Performing procedures outside of critical care areas, such as setting up low-flow oxygen, administering aerosol therapy, and performing electrocardiograms.
- Assisting with airway clearance and hyperinflation therapy.
- Helping with equipment maintenance, including cleaning and stocking.
- Assisting in cardiorespiratory arrests once you obtain Basic Life Support certification.
- Participating in projects to improve health care delivery.
What you'll need#
- You must be a second-year student in an accredited AS degree Respiratory Care Program or a senior in an accredited BS degree program within one year of graduation.
- You should be meeting or exceeding all academic requirements.
- You need computer literacy skills.
- You must obtain BLS certification within 14 days of your hire date.
