About the role#
Hamilton Lane is seeking a law student for a legal externship. This role offers hands-on exposure to the legal and business aspects of the private markets industry. You will work alongside experienced legal professionals to support the firm's operations and legal initiatives.
What you'll do#
- Support the build-out of AI-driven tools and workflows for the legal team, including testing prompts and documenting processes.
- Conduct legal research on fund formation, securities law, regulatory, and investment-related questions.
- Assist with drafting and reviewing routine legal documents, correspondence, and internal summaries.
- Attend and take notes during team meetings, calls, and training sessions.
- Coordinate with internal teams, such as compliance and investment, on cross-functional matters.
- Help organize and maintain legal knowledge resources, including precedent documents and clause libraries.
What you'll need#
- A strong academic record.
- An interest in business, finance, investment management, and corporate or securities law.
- The ability to work collaboratively in a professional office environment.
- Strong research, writing, and analytical skills.
- Comfort working with technology and an interest in legal innovation or AI tools.
- The ability to manage multiple tasks independently while maintaining attention to detail.
Location & details#
- This is an on-site position based in Conshohocken, Pennsylvania.
- The schedule is approximately 12-16 hours per week.
- In-person availability is required at least Monday through Thursday.
- This is an unpaid internship, though it is eligible for academic credit.
