About the role#
The R&D Product Chemistry team examines how chemistry affects the performance of consumer health products. You will work alongside experienced scientists in a laboratory setting to support the development of new products. This role involves hands-on experimentation and data analysis to help build scientific understanding.
What you'll do#
- Prepare samples for laboratory analysis.
- Assist with the maintenance of instruments used in daily operations.
- Conduct experiments to support R&D projects under the guidance of senior scientists.
- Propose ideas to improve sample preparation, data processing, and laboratory workflows.
- Set up, maintain, and dismantle experimental equipment.
- Maintain laboratory cleanliness, including glassware washing and inventory organization.
What you'll need#
- Currently pursuing an Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, Biochemistry, Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, or a related field.
- Completed introductory science coursework.
- Familiarity with laboratory equipment such as balances, pH meters, and pipettes.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
- Ability to work safely in a lab environment while following established procedures.
- Capacity to work in a laboratory setting for extended periods.
- Previous laboratory coursework or hands-on experience is preferred.
- Exposure to analytical techniques like spectroscopy, chromatography, or calorimetry is a plus.
- Strong curiosity, problem-solving, and communication skills.
Location & details#
- Location: Richmond, Virginia.
- Term: Summer 2027, starting in June.
- Schedule: Full-time, 40 hours per week, Monday through Friday, 8am to 5pm for 12 weeks.
- Modality: On-site, 4 to 5 days per week.
- Compensation: Paid internship based on academic standing ($20.00 to $26.00 per hour).
- Note: This role does not offer sponsorship and requires candidates to arrange their own housing and transportation.
