About the role#
This is a paid, full-time internship with Granite Construction in Anchorage, Alaska. You will assist in administering accident prevention programs and ensuring work complies with safety laws and company policies. This role requires frequent travel and involves working in an on-site construction environment.
What you'll do#
- Promote compliance with the company safety program and local accident prevention efforts.
- Assist in developing and implementing safety programs.
- Perform and document jobsite inspections and audits to identify hazards and unsafe behaviors.
- Help prepare and lead safety meetings and training programs.
- Participate in regulatory agency inspections and investigations.
- Assist in creating and reviewing job hazard analysis for major work phases.
- Support the investigation and record-keeping for third-party, asset loss, and worker compensation claims.
- Coordinate with the corporate insurance department to ensure claims are handled in a timely manner.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a Bachelor’s degree program, specifically in Safety or Occupational Health.
- Strong communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to teach, mentor, and lead others.
- Proficiency in Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
- Ability to work effectively under pressure in a high production environment.
- Willingness and availability to travel frequently.
- Ability to perform physical tasks, including climbing stairs and ladders and lifting up to 50 pounds.
