About the role#
The Government of Alberta is seeking an Environmental Intern to join the Planning, Grants and Engineering Services Division. This full-time, temporary position reports to the Director of Environmental Regulation and provides technical support for regulatory issues related to highway and water infrastructure projects. The role ensures that departmental construction and maintenance activities remain in compliance with provincial and federal legislation.
What you'll do#
- Support the Environmental Standards Specialist in creating specifications and guidance documents.
- Assist in reviewing technical reports and environmental site assessments.
- Develop scopes of environmental work and evaluate cost-effective remediation and mitigation alternatives.
- Identify environmental issues requiring permits, such as wetland compensation, navigable waters, or DFO requirements.
- Review and provide advice for Environmental Management Plans and policies under development.
- Support staff in the digitization of environmental and aggregate records.
What you'll need#
- A two-year technical diploma in a field such as biology, agrology, or forestry, plus two years of related experience.
- Equivalencies include a related bachelor's degree, a one-year certificate with three years of experience, or four years of related experience.
- A valid Alberta Class 5 Driver’s Licence or equivalent.
- Experience with environmental specifications, field surveys, and technical report writing is considered an asset.

- Location: Edmonton, Alberta.
- Term: Fall 2026 through March 31, 2027.
- Work Modality: On-site, 36.25 hours per week.
- Compensation: $2,516.23 to $3,295.45 bi-weekly.
