    About the role#

    The Planning, Grants and Engineering Services division is seeking an Environmental Intern to join the team. This role provides technical support for regulatory issues related to the delivery of highway and water infrastructure projects. You will report to the Director, Environmental Regulation, and work to ensure that departmental activities align with relevant federal and provincial legislation.

    What you'll do#

    • Support the Environmental Standards Specialist in creating specifications and guidance documents.
    • Assist in the review of technical reports and environmental site assessments.
    • Develop the scope of environmental work and assess cost-effective remediation or mitigation alternatives.
    • Identify environmental issues that require permits, such as wetland compensation or navigable waters concerns.
    • Review and provide advice for Environmental Management Plans and policies under development.
    • Support staff in the digitization of environmental and aggregate records.

    What you'll need#

    • A two-year technical diploma in a related field, such as biology, agrology, or forestry, with two years of progressively responsible experience.
    • Alternatively, a related bachelor’s degree, or a one-year certificate with three years of experience, or four years of related experience.
    • A valid Alberta Class 5 Driver’s Licence or equivalent.
    • Experience with environmental specifications, field surveys, and technical report writing is considered an asset.

    • Location: Edmonton, Alberta.
    • Term: Fall 2026, ending March 31, 2027.
    • Status: Full-time, 36.25 hours per week.
    • Modality: On-site.
    • Compensation: Paid position.
