Construction Operations Intern

About the role#

This is a paid, full-time internship where you will work alongside estimators, surveyors, project engineers, and superintendents. You will gain experience across the full lifecycle of heavy highway and civil construction projects, including preconstruction, project management, and field operations. This role is based in Montoursville, PA, and follows a rolling schedule.

What you'll do#

• Assist with project documentation, such as bid packages, reports, and correspondence.
• Review engineering drawings, plans, and contract specifications.
• Perform quantity takeoffs and research material pricing or subcontractor quotes.
• Help prepare estimates, change orders, and progress payments.
• Support project scheduling and maintain project files.
• Participate in meetings with project managers, owners, and subcontractors.
• Observe field operations and assist survey crews with layout, staking, and grade verification.
• Learn to use GPS technology and surveying equipment.
• Shadow management personnel to understand project planning and closeout processes.
• Operate company vehicles to travel between offices and active project sites.

What you'll need#

• Currently pursuing an Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, Surveying Technology, or a related field.
• A high school diploma or equivalent.
• A valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record.
• Strong organizational, analytical, and communication skills.
• Genuine interest in heavy highway, site development, and civil construction.
• Ability to manage multiple tasks and work in both office and field environments.
• Previous exposure to construction, estimating, or surveying is helpful but not required.
