    About the role#

    The GIFFORDS Courage Fellowship is a program for young people focused on gun violence prevention. Fellows spend the winter and spring of 2027 building advocacy skills and working with policy experts. This is a paid, full-time opportunity based in Michigan.

    What you'll do#

    • Participate in seven in-person and virtual trainings to refine your organizing and advocacy skills.
    • Develop and carry out a community engagement project centered on gun violence prevention.
    • Meet with legislators to discuss gun violence prevention efforts.
    • Network with other young activists and experts in the field.
    • Join the Courage Fellowship Ambassador Program for ongoing mentorship and advocacy work.

    What you'll need#

    • You must be between the ages of 18 and 24.
    • You should have strong ties to Michigan and plan to remain in the state.
    • You need a demonstrated interest in politics, community organizing, activism, or volunteerism.
    • You must be willing to travel within the state for all required trainings.
    • You must be able to attend the entirety of every scheduled program training.
    • Students in fields such as Political Science, Sociology, History, Communications, Public Health, International Relations, or Journalism are encouraged to apply.

    Location & details#

    • This program takes place in Michigan with a mix of on-site and virtual components.
    • The fellowship runs through the Winter and Spring of 2027.
    • GIFFORDS covers all program-related costs, including food, travel, and lodging.

It operates the GIFFORDS Law Center to research and draft safety legislation. The organization also runs a political action committee to support elected officials.
