Colorado GIFFORDS Courage Fellowship Application

About the role#

The GIFFORDS Courage Fellowship is a program for individuals ages 18 to 24 designed to build advocacy and organizing skills within the gun violence prevention movement. Fellows work closely with staff and peers to develop projects that drive legislative and community change. This is a paid, full-time opportunity that requires a commitment to ongoing advocacy work beyond the initial training period.

What you'll do#

• Attend three in-person trainings in Colorado and four virtual training sessions.
• Develop and implement a community engagement project focused on gun violence prevention, such as voter registration drives, town halls, or advocacy events.
• Meet with lawmakers to discuss the importance of gun violence prevention legislation.
• Participate in quarterly check-ins with GIFFORDS staff for mentorship and project support.
• Network with other young activists and nationally recognized movement leaders.
• Join the Courage Fellowship Ambassador Program upon completion of the initial fellowship, which includes mentoring incoming fellows and representing the organization at events.

What you'll need#

• Strong ties to Colorado and a plan to remain in the state for the foreseeable future.
• A demonstrated interest in politics, community organizing, activism, or volunteerism.
• A passion for fighting gun violence and an eagerness to learn new advocacy skills.
• Ability to travel throughout Colorado for all scheduled in-person trainings.
• Willingness to commit to the long-term requirements of the Ambassador Program.
• Preferred academic backgrounds include Political Science, Sociology, Communications, Public Health, or Psychology, though all interested candidates are encouraged to apply.

• Compensation: This is a paid fellowship; all program-related costs including travel, food, and lodging are covered by GIFFORDS.
