About the role#
The GIFFORDS Courage Fellowship is a program for young people focused on advocacy and gun violence prevention. Fellows will refine their organizing skills while working to reduce gun violence in their communities. This program is based in Arizona and emphasizes state-level advocacy.
What you'll do#
- Attend three in-person trainings and four virtual sessions with GIFFORDS staff.
- Design and implement a community engagement project with staff support.
- Lobby legislators at the State Capitol.
- Participate in the Courage Fellowship Ambassador Program, which includes attending events, mentoring future fellows, and contributing to communications.
- Engage in regular check-ins and mentorship with staff.
What you'll need#
- You are between the ages of 18 and 24.
- You have strong ties to Arizona and plan to remain in the state.
- You have a demonstrated interest in politics, community organizing, activism, or volunteerism.
- You are able to attend the entirety of all scheduled trainings.
- Academic backgrounds such as Political Science, Sociology, Public Health, Communications, History, or International Relations are relevant, though not required.

- This is an on-site fellowship located in Arizona.
- The term covers Winter 2027 and Spring 2027.
- This is a paid, full-time opportunity.
- GIFFORDS covers all program-related costs including food, travel, and hotel.

GIFFORDS is a nonprofit organization based in Washington, DC. Founded in 2013, the group focuses on public policy related to gun violence prevention. It operates the GIFFORDS Law Center to research and draft safety legislation. The organization also runs a political action committee to support elected officials.
