About the role#
As an Environmental Risk Assessor Intern, you will join our team to apply risk assessment and management strategies that support contaminated site decision-making. You will work on projects involving site characterization and remedial actions to identify and control human and ecological exposures to chemicals in the environment. This role involves evaluating environmental datasets, performing statistical and spatial analysis, and supporting exposure modeling.
What you'll do#
- Evaluate large environmental datasets for traditional and emerging chemicals.
- Interpret site characterization data and perform statistical or spatial analysis.
- Support contaminant fate and transport modeling to assess risks.
- Assist in preparing reports and other written communications.
- Collect data from standard sources and input it into required formats.
- Organize and prepare complex documents using office applications.
- Gather and summarize data for special reports.
- Collect straightforward samples and perform testing to support regulatory compliance.
- Participate in assessment and development planning to build your professional capabilities.
What you'll need#
- Planned completion of a Bachelor or Master degree in Biology, Toxicology, Ecotoxicology, Environmental Science, Ecology, or a related field in 2028.
- Strong analytical and quantitative skills.
- Familiarity with spreadsheet and database software.
- Knowledge or experience in ecological or human health risk assessment, environmental fate modeling, or statistical sampling design is a plus but not required.
Location & details#
- This position is based in Syracuse, New York.
- The role follows a hybrid work model, requiring you to be in the office three days a week.
- This is a paid, full-time internship with a rolling term.
