    About the role#

    General Motors is looking for a graduate student to join the Global Customer Research team for a project-based internship during Summer 2027. You will work alongside experienced researchers to gather, analyze, and synthesize customer data that informs business strategy, product development, and the overall customer experience. This role focuses on understanding the people and behaviors behind market trends to help keep the customer at the center of business decisions.

    What you'll do#

    • Manage research projects and suppliers from start to finish while meeting time and budget targets.
    • Collect, review, and analyze market research data to identify key insights and recommend actions.
    • Consult with internal stakeholders to frame learning objectives and apply appropriate research methodologies.
    • Develop quantitative questionnaires and qualitative discussion guides.
    • Provide consumer and market insights to teams across Brand, Product, Marketing, Planning, Program Management, Engineering, and Design.
    • Create and deliver presentations to share findings with various levels of leadership.
    • Conduct special analyses using current data or industry trends.

    What you'll need#

    • Currently pursuing a master or MBA degree in market research, business administration, economics, statistics, or industrial-organizational psychology.
    • Expected graduation date between December 2027 and June 2028.
    • Ability to work full time (40 hours per week) during the summer.
    • Foundational analytical and critical-thinking skills, including the ability to organize information and identify themes.
    • Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
    • Experience with Google Workspace, including Slides, Docs, and Sheets.
    • Foundational ability to use AI-enabled tools for prompt engineering, building productivity agents, and drafting professional documents.
    • Hands-on experience using AI-enabled tools for data analysis and visualization, plus experience evaluating AI outputs for quality and bias.
    • Familiarity with Qualtrics, including survey programming, JavaScript, Stats iQ, and XM Directory.
    • Familiarity with statistical concepts and market research methods like conjoint analysis and MaxDiff.
    • Curiosity about customer behavior and a willingness to take initiative in a collaborative environment.

    Location & details#

    • Locations: Warren, Michigan and Washington, District of Columbia.
    • Modality: Hybrid. Candidates in Warren are expected to report to the GM Tech Center at least three times per week.
    • Term: Summer 2027.
    • Start dates: May 24, 2027, or June 14, 2027.
    • Employment: Full time, paid position.
