About the role#
This internship provides practical experience within the defense industry. You will work alongside senior staff and mentors to support the design, construction, and maintenance of submarines. The role focuses on the COLUMBIA and VIRGINIA class programs, including the VIRGINIA Payload Module, as well as the Maintenance, Modernization, and Waterfront organization.
What you'll do#
- Manage design, construction, and overhaul activities.
- Develop and improve metrics to optimize program performance.
- Assist with contract and product management.
- Help resolve shipyard problems.
- Perform various technical tasks related to the Life Cycle Support program.
- Work both independently and as part of a team to complete assignments on time.
What you'll need#
- Enrollment as a full-time student in a Bachelor or Master of Science program.
- Completion of freshman year prior to the start date.
- Majors in Business, Finance, Accounting, Management, Economics, Data Management, Business Information Systems, or Engineering.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Word and Excel.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks with shifting priorities.
- US citizenship and age 18 or older.
- Ability to pass a medically supervised drug screen and background check.
Location & details#
- Locations: Groton, North Stonington, or New London, Connecticut.
- Term: Summer 2027.
- Commitment: 40 hours per week for at least eight consecutive weeks.
- Modality: On-site only.
- Requirements: You must arrange your own housing and transportation.
