    About the role#

    This Software Engineering Co-op position supports software development for mission-critical systems within the Air and Naval Sonar Systems group. You will gain hands-on experience across the full software development lifecycle while working under the guidance of senior engineers. The role focuses on modern development practices including object-oriented programming and test-driven development.

    What you'll do#

    • Assist in the design, analysis, and implementation of software features to meet system requirements.
    • Develop, maintain, and document software using C++, C, Java, and Python.
    • Support software integration with third-party equipment and internal systems.
    • Participate in unit, integration, and verification testing.
    • Prepare technical documentation such as requirements, design notes, test plans, and reports.
    • Investigate system problem reports, perform root cause analysis, and help resolve software issues.
    • Maintain the codebase following established coding standards and configuration management practices.
    • Collaborate with team members, share ideas, and present work during peer reviews.
    • Contribute to high-level integration and qualification testing.

    What you'll need#

    • Current enrollment in a bachelor’s degree program for Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical field at a recognized Canadian post-secondary institution.
    • Understanding of software engineering principles and the development lifecycle.
    • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and root cause analysis skills.
    • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively with effective communication skills.
    • Motivation to learn under the guidance of senior engineers.
    • Experience with programming languages such as C++, C, Java, or Python.
    • Exposure to object-oriented programming, test-driven development, and software testing concepts.
    • Experience with technical writing and documentation.
    • Knowledge of version control tools like Git.
    • Exposure to AI/ML models and system interface integration.
    • Ability to obtain and maintain a Canadian government security clearance.

    • Location: Ottawa, Ontario.
    • Term: Winter 2027 (4-8 months).
    • Modality: Hybrid.
    • Employment Type: Full-time.
    • Compensation: $24.92 - $33.23 per hour, with eligibility for quarterly pay increases.
