About the role#
The Health Sciences Student - Patient Care Technician (PCT) program offers students in non-nursing healthcare fields a chance to gain clinical experience while finishing their education. This is a per diem role based at Geisinger Medical Center in Danville, Pennsylvania. You will work under the supervision of a Registered Nurse to support patient care and unit operations.
What you'll do#
- Perform advanced patient care duties including dressing care, suctioning, and removal of Foley catheters and peripheral IVs.
- Collect blood specimens through venipuncture and skin punctures.
- Assist patients with daily living activities, including hygiene and linen changes.
- Provide one-to-one patient safety watches.
- Handle storage, preparation, and delivery of breast milk and infant formulas.
- Perform point-of-care testing and maintain medical equipment.
- Document patient physical needs and report condition changes to licensed staff.
- Manage clerical duties such as admissions, transfers, discharges, and coordinating patient transportation.
- Transport non-controlled medications and blood products as needed.
- Participate in quality rounds and safety drills.
- Serve as a mentor for new staff and students.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in an accredited college-level health sciences program, such as Biology, Pre-Physician Assistant, or Medical Assistant.
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Strong teamwork, communication, and reliability.
- A proactive and engaged approach to patient care.
- Commitment to long-term scheduling and orientation requirements.
Location & details#
- Location: Danville, Pennsylvania.
- Work Modality: On-site.
- Shift: Per diem night shifts (7:00 PM to 7:30 AM).
- Schedule: Minimum commitment of 24 hours per 4-week period.
- Orientation: Mandatory two-week classroom orientation, Monday through Friday, 7:00 AM to 3:30 PM.
