About the role#
GE HealthCare is looking for a Mechanical Engineering Co-op to join the Life Supporting Systems (LSS) team in Madison, Wisconsin. This role focuses on the development and improvement of anesthesia and infant care products within a regulated medical device environment. You will work on project-oriented assignments under the guidance of a manager and mentor, gaining hands-on experience across the product design cycle.
What you'll do#
- Assist senior engineers with the design, development, and testing of mechanical components and assemblies.
- Conduct CAD modeling and drafting using industry-standard software.
- Perform mechanical analyses such as stress, thermal, and fluid dynamics simulations.
- Support design verification testing, including building test fixtures and collecting data.
- Analyze test results, write reports, and present findings to engineering teams.
- Help maintain engineering documentation like specifications, drawings, and procedures.
- Participate in design reviews and collaborate with cross-functional teams including electrical, manufacturing, and quality assurance.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a Bachelor's or Master's degree program in Mechanical Engineering or Biomedical Engineering with a mechanical emphasis.
- Strong grasp of mechanical engineering principles such as statics, dynamics, mechanics of materials, and thermodynamics.
- Familiarity with CAD software like SolidWorks or Creo.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and within a team.
- A preferred GPA of 3.0 or higher on a 4.0 scale.
- Experience with FEA software like ANSYS or ABAQUS is a plus.
- Previous internship or co-op experience in a relevant industry is preferred.
