About the role#
The Student Assignment Clerk - Bilingual Liaison provides administrative and clerical support within Gaston County Schools. This role acts as a bridge between the district and language minority families, helping to clarify policies and assist with the enrollment process. You will work independently to manage office operations, handle inquiries, and ensure families feel supported as they navigate school programs.
What you'll do#
- Assist families with enrollment questions, district procedures, and general concerns.
- Maintain accurate files, data records, correspondence, and reports.
- Manage incoming calls and route them to the appropriate department.
- Perform clerical tasks including typing, transcribing information onto forms, and processing letters or memoranda.
- Complete arithmetic calculations and maintain records for accounts, inventories, and payroll.
- Process and file routine documents like applications and purchase requisitions.
- Operate office equipment such as computers, printers, and copiers.
- Assist the public at the front counter with information regarding school programs.
- Support supervisors with minor administrative tasks.
- Attend occasional evening or weekend community and parent events.
What you'll need#
- High school diploma (two years of college is preferred).
- At least 3 years of experience working with families or community members.
- Fluency and literacy in the appropriate language for the site population.
- Ability to interact effectively with diverse cultures and social groups.
- Strong communication skills, both written and oral.
- Proficiency with word processing, spreadsheets, and file maintenance software.
- Knowledge of basic office practices, grammar, and elementary arithmetic.
- Ability to type accurately at a moderate speed.
- Capacity to follow oral and written instructions and maintain professional working relationships.
- Physical ability to perform tasks such as lifting up to 50 pounds, standing, walking, and reaching.
Location & details#
- Location: Gastonia, North Carolina.
- This is a full-time, on-site position.
- The role is non-exempt and follows a 12-month schedule.
- Employment is contingent upon passing a health exam, criminal records check, and drug test.
