About the role#
The Student Specific Support Aide provides direct assistance to students with health, behavioral, or instructional needs. You will help students meet their Individual Education Plan (IEP) goals and support their success within the school environment. This is a full-time, on-site position based in Gastonia, North Carolina.
What you'll do#
- Implement strategies, techniques, and schedules for students as determined by the IEP team.
- Assist students with personal needs, including support in the classroom, cafeteria, and restroom.
- Accompany assigned students on field trips, extracurricular events, and bus transportation.
- Collect and report data to teachers, administrators, parents, and service providers to ensure interventions are monitored.
- Help students move around campus and assist with physical or medical needs as required.
- Participate in staff development and training sessions to gain knowledge of specific health or behavioral procedures.
What you'll need#
- A High School diploma.
- Prior experience in child-care.
- Prior experience working with children or adults who have special learning, behavior, or health-care needs.
- Ability to perform medium to heavy work, including lifting and moving up to 50 pounds.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to maintain student confidentiality.
- Majors such as Psychology, Sociology, Nursing, or Public Health are relevant to this work.
