About the role#
The Mechanical Engineering Co-op position at Fives provides hands-on experience in the design, development, and documentation of industrial machinery within an OEM environment. This role supports lead engineers in product development, CAD modeling, and machine assembly while contributing to continuous improvement and technical problem-solving efforts.
What you'll do#
- Assist in the design, modeling, and documentation of mechanical components and assemblies.
- Support engineering activities during machine builds, assembly, and testing.
- Participate in design reviews and contribute feedback to improve product quality and performance.
- Collaborate with lead engineers to troubleshoot and resolve technical and customer-related issues.
- Aid in the development of new parts, systems, and assemblies.
- Create and maintain engineering documentation, including drawings and specifications.
- Promote and adhere to safety standards in the work environment.
What you'll need#
- Currently pursuing a Bachelor of Science (B.S.) in Mechanical Engineering from an accredited 4-year university.
- Familiarity with CAD software, with preference for experience in Creo, SolidWorks, or Siemens NX.
- Basic understanding of mechanical design principles and manufacturing processes.
- Strong problem-solving, analytical, and time management skills.
- Clear written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to collaborate across cross-functional teams and with suppliers.
- Prior internship, co-op, or project experience in a manufacturing or OEM environment is a plus.
- Exposure to engineering design reviews, hazard analyses, and FMEA is beneficial.
