About the role#
Feed Energy is seeking a Research and Development Co-Op to join our team in Des Moines, Iowa. This role involves active investigation across chemistry and engineering disciplines, focusing on chemical processing. You will participate in the full process development cycle, from initial research and development to engineering scale-up and final implementation. This is a full-time, paid position with a rolling term.
What you'll do#
- Perform research experiments and apply critical thinking to short and long-term analysis.
- Help design and build scale-up models for lab research and process improvements.
- Collect and analyze research data using mathematical or statistical methods.
- Operate laboratory equipment and conduct tests on units and components under operational conditions.
- Modify equipment to meet design specifications and interpret engineering drawings or formulas.
- Develop and customize products, formulas, and analytical methods.
- Prepare technical reports and deliver presentations to recommend further action.
- Assist engineers in building and testing prototypes.
- Provide technical support to chemists and engineers.
- Train operations staff on new processes, equipment, and procedures.
- Practice safety protocols when handling chemicals and maintain a clean, orderly work environment.
- Communicate with supervisors and team members to track project progress.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment as a junior or senior in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Biological Systems Engineering, or Biology.
- Working knowledge of Word, PowerPoint, and Excel.
- Preferred: Knowledge of organic and wet chemistry.
- Preferred: Experience with analytical equipment such as gas or liquid chromatographs and spectrophotometric instruments.
