About the role#
This is a paid, full-time internship for PhD students in Data Science or Computer Science. You will join the Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago for a 10-12 week program beginning in June 2027. This role offers exposure to our operations through project-based assignments and professional development activities that support our mission.
What you'll do#
- Contribute to your assigned department while gaining insight into the Federal Reserve System.
- Build relationships with subject matter experts, Bank leadership, and fellow interns.
- Interpret data and analytics to develop insights, tell stories, support decision-making, and measure impact.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in an accredited PhD program with a graduation date of December 2027 or later.
- U.S. Citizenship or Permanent Residency status.
- A minimum 2.75 GPA.
- Ability to work 40 hours per week for the duration of the program.
- Intermediate proficiency in Word and Excel.
- Strong communication skills, including the ability to present information to small or medium groups.
- A detail-oriented, self-motivated approach with the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Ability to interact professionally with internal and external clients.
Location & details#
- Location: Chicago, Illinois.
- Modality: On-site or hybrid, depending on department requirements.
- Term: Summer 2027.
- Compensation: $20 to $33 per hour, based on academic level.
- Note: This position requires additional screening, including background and credit checks, and compliance with Bank ethics rules regarding the ownership of bank securities.
