About the role#
We are looking for IA Research Engineer interns to join our kernels team during the Winter and Summer of 2027. You will work alongside our founders to build agentic harnesses, tools, and evaluations that help our engineers accelerate the production of frontier tokens. This role is for builders who want to own problems from start to finish.
What you'll do#
- Embed with the kernels team to identify high-leverage bottlenecks and build tools that engineers use daily.
- Build and deploy LLM agents into our engineering workflows using tool-calling and MCP.
- Develop execution environments where agents can verify their own work with sandboxed access to compilers, simulators, profilers, and real hardware.
- Ship internal products end to end, including the necessary infrastructure, data pipelines, and interfaces.
- Design evaluations and track adoption to measure the effectiveness of the tools you build.
- Support special projects across the company alongside our founders.
What you'll need#
- Progress toward a Bachelor’s, Master’s, or PhD in computer science, computer engineering, or a related field.
- Strong software engineering fundamentals and a track record of shipping projects that others use.
- Experience building agents for multi-step tasks, including context management, tool design, failure analysis, and evaluations.
- Experience using coding agents, including reviewing transcripts and modifying systems when an agent is wrong.
- High agency in unfamiliar domains, strong product sense, and extreme attention to detail.
- Preferred: Experience with chip development, GPU kernels, hardware, or manufacturing.
- Preferred: Experience with DevOps, infrastructure, or data engineering.
- Preferred: Experience with multi-agent orchestration, RAG over technical data, or fine-tuning.
- Preferred: Experience from hackathons, startups, or side projects with real users.
Location & details#
- This is a full-time, paid, 12-week internship.
- The role is located on-site in San Jose, California.
