About the role#
As a Materials Science Intern at ESi, you will support our consultants in conducting forensic investigations and failure analysis. You will work on projects involving equipment failures, product issues, and site investigations. This role provides hands-on experience in a professional laboratory environment, allowing you to apply your academic knowledge to real-world technical problems.
What you'll do#
- Assist consultants during forensic inspections at both laboratory and field sites.
- Document evidence and artifacts using photography, videography, note taking, and dimensional measurements.
- Learn to operate materials characterization equipment and microscopes.
- Perform laboratory testing independently and report your findings.
- Support the team with file reviews and technical report writing.
What you'll need#
- Enrollment in a bachelor’s degree program for metallurgical engineering, materials engineering, materials science, or a related field.
- Completion of at least your freshman year of college.
- A GPA of 3.30 or higher is preferred.
- Academic coursework in investigative methods and laboratory sciences.
- Familiarity with data analysis and metallurgical testing methods.
- Hands-on experience with microscopy and photography.
- Ability to write clear technical reports.
- A valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
- Ability to travel for work trips lasting up to three days.
- Physical ability to lift up to 50 pounds regularly, with occasional lifting up to 75 pounds.
- Ability to work in various environments, including industrial settings and construction sites, which may require bending, kneeling, or accessing confined spaces.
Location & details#
- Location: Kansas City, Missouri.
- Modality: On-site.
- Schedule: Full-time, 40 hours per week, Monday to Friday, 8am to 5pm.
- Term: Rolling.
