About the role#
Engineering Systems Inc. (ESi) is hiring a Civil Structural Intern for the Summer 2027 term. This is a full-time, on-site position based in Aurora, Illinois. You will work with our Civil and Structural team to investigate, evaluate, and restore structures by performing inspections, research, and engineering analysis.
What you'll do#
- Visit sites to inspect existing structures and document their condition or damage.
- Create dimensional documentation and analyze existing structural systems.
- Review project-related reports, drawings, and literature.
- Prepare AutoCAD drawings for proposed repairs or retrofits.
- Perform structural analysis using software like SAP2000.
- Organize data and calculations using MathCAD or Excel.
- Write technical reports to present findings from inspections and analyses.
- Work in both office settings and field environments, including industrial sites or damaged structures.
- Perform physical tasks such as bending, kneeling, or lifting up to 50 pounds (occasionally up to 75 pounds).
What you'll need#
- Completed at least 3 years of a Civil Engineering or Physics degree program.
- A GPA of 3.00 or higher is preferred.
- Intermediate proficiency with CAD and office productivity software.
- A valid driver's license and reliable transportation.
- Ability to travel for work trips lasting up to three days.
- Prior experience in field investigations, structural inspections, design, analysis, or technical report writing is preferred.
