About the role#
As a Nurse Extern at Encompass Health, you will support the rehabilitation team by providing direct care to patients. This is a paid, full-time position that offers hands-on clinical experience for students currently enrolled in a nursing program.
What you'll do#
- Assist patients with daily activities and body mechanics as delegated by the rehabilitation team.
- Obtain vital signs and record them in the electronic medical record.
- Document patient information and communicate any changes in condition to nurses or therapists.
- Perform special procedures, such as collecting urine, stool, and sputum samples.
- Review treatments, hygiene, and daily living activities with patients and their families.
- Assist with patient feeding and participate in the Therapeutic Dining Group.
- Maintain a clean, healthy patient environment and assist with equipment care.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment and good academic standing in a professional Registered Nurse or Licensed Practical/Vocational Nurse program.
- Successful completion of the first term of nursing courses, including fundamentals of nursing or an equivalent course.
- BLS (CPR) certification, or the ability to obtain it within 30 days of hire.
- Ability to provide proof of continued enrollment and passing grades each semester.
- One year of experience in an inpatient clinical setting is preferred.
- Submission of one or two instructor evaluations indicating satisfactory performance of fundamental nursing skills, if available.
