About the role#
This co-op position offers practical experience in the utility industry. Reporting to the Supervisor of Stations, you will work alongside Substation Technicians to support the maintenance, testing, inspection, and troubleshooting of electrical substation equipment. This role involves exposure to low, medium, and high voltage systems and requires travel within the jurisdiction to respond to emergency trouble calls and alarms.
What you'll do#
- Support Substation Technicians with planned maintenance, inspections, and equipment troubleshooting.
- Assist in the maintenance and testing of power transformers, circuit breakers, switchgear, disconnect switches, power fuses, lightning arresters, and battery systems.
- Read and interpret electrical schematics, single-line diagrams, wiring diagrams, and equipment drawings.
- Maintain a clean and organized work environment through routine housekeeping.
- Follow safe work practices and company standards regarding isolation, grounding, and bonding.
What you'll need#
- Enrollment in an Electrical Engineering Technology or related college program.
- Eligibility for a recognized co-op education work term.
- Valid G Ontario Driver’s License in good standing.
- Current First Aid, CPR, and AED certification.
- Knowledge of WHIMIS, Ontario Traffic Manual, Field Book 7, IHSA, OHSA, and Reg. 22/04.
- Working at Heights training.
