The Community Research Collaborative offers internship opportunities for students interested in applied research, data science, evaluation, design, and community engagement. You will join an interdisciplinary environment to contribute to research, data analysis, and communications efforts that support community-engaged scholarship in Durham and beyond. This role is open to students pursuing majors in Data Science, Computer Science, or Statistics.
What you'll do#
Responsibilities vary by specific role and may include:
- Collaborating on community-based research and data science projects.
- Mining and analyzing data to optimize community engagement strategies.
- Developing custom data models and algorithms for applied research.
- Assisting with database design, development, and testing.
- Supporting the setup and maintenance of data handling systems.
- Ensuring data security and data integrity.
- Responding to information requests from community partners.
- Conducting literature reviews and summarizing findings.
- Assisting in the design and implementation of mixed-methods evaluations.
- Tracking grantee progress toward impact goals and metrics.
- Analyzing spatial data and producing digital maps.
- Creating data visualizations for academic and community audiences.
- Writing, editing, and proofreading reports for publication and web distribution.
- Designing materials for print and digital collateral.
- Maintaining accurate data records and safeguarding confidentiality.
What you'll need#
- Strong interest in community engagement, data science, or social impact.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
- Attention to detail and a commitment to data integrity.
- Experience with data analysis tools such as Excel, R, Python, or GIS is a plus.
