About the role#
Draper is hiring a Junior Requirements Engineer co-op to join the Digital Retrieval, Engineering, Architecture, and Management (DREAM) Group. You will work under the guidance of a lead engineer to define, analyze, and document system requirements for national-security programs, including strategic deterrent, missile-defense, hypersonic, and autonomous vehicle projects. This role provides hands-on experience with digital twins, digital threads, and model-driven engineering.
What you'll do#
- Design, develop, and enhance engineering solutions for complex problems.
- Assist in eliciting functional and non-functional requirements from stakeholders.
- Translate high-level mission objectives into detailed, verifiable requirement specifications.
- Maintain requirement traceability matrices and contribute to architectural decisions.
- Draft technical reports, presentations, and requirement documents.
- Generate test reports including plots, tables, evaluation criteria, and conclusions.
- Identify gaps or conflicts in requirements and propose mitigations.
- Participate in training on Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE), Trade Space Exploration (TSE), and Python-based data workflows.
- Complete assignments to build practical knowledge of engineering processes, procedures, and systems.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in an accredited full-time undergraduate or graduate degree program in engineering, Computer Science, Physics, or a related STEM field.
- US Citizenship.
- Scientific programming experience in Python.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to work independently or within interdisciplinary teams.
- Proficiency with MS Word, PowerPoint, and Excel.
- Interest in Systems Engineering, MBSE, and Data Science.
- Familiarity with MagicDraw or other SysML tools is preferred.
- Exposure to trade-space exploration, data-state management, and multi-domain data architectures is a plus.
