About the role#
This internship offers hands-on experience in water resources engineering. You will work alongside professionals recognized for their expertise in hydrology, hydraulics, and hydraulic structures. The program provides one-on-one mentorship to help you develop the skills needed for a career as a Water Resources Engineer.
What you'll do#
- Assist with project design, field investigations, and construction inspections.
- Perform engineering calculations to support design projects.
- Tabulate bid items and calculate construction quantities to estimate costs.
- Conduct hydrologic and hydraulic analyses using HEC-HMS, HEC-RAS, and HY-8.
- Use GIS applications to determine watershed characteristics and create map exhibits.
- Support other engineering disciplines including geotechnical, transportation, and structural teams.
- Write technical reports and provide construction administration support.
What you'll need#
- Completion of one to two years of college-level coursework toward a baccalaureate degree in Civil Engineering, with a focus on water preferred.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
- Ability to work with mathematical concepts including probability, statistics, geometry, and trigonometry.
- Ability to interpret technical instructions, define problems, and draw valid conclusions.
- A valid driver's license.
- Experience with ARC GIS and AutoCAD Civil 3D is highly desirable.
- Prior work experience in construction or civil engineering fields is a plus.
