About the role#
This is a paid, full-time summer internship for 2027. You will provide engineering support across multiple practice areas, including Civil and Land Development, Water and Environmental Services, and Transportation and Structures. This position is located on-site in either Spokane, Washington, or Helena, Montana.
What you'll do#
- Research and visit project sites to document existing conditions.
- Perform engineering calculations for design projects.
- Create manual or AutoCAD drawings.
- Coordinate with government agencies and clients to secure design information and approvals.
- Track project records and prepare correspondence.
- Visit construction sites to check work quality and progress.
- Help write and edit construction specifications.
- Calculate construction bid quantities and estimate costs.
- Assist survey crews and perform materials testing.
- Conduct construction inspections for roadway projects.
What you'll need#
- Completion of one to two years of college-level coursework toward a bachelor's degree in civil engineering.
- A valid driver's license.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and Project software.
- Ability to work with geometry, trigonometry, probability, and statistics.
- Skills to interpret technical instructions, journals, and diagrams.
- Strong communication skills for interacting with clients, agencies, and the public.
- Ability to define problems and draw valid conclusions from data.
- Prior experience in construction or civil engineering is helpful.
- AutoCAD experience is highly desirable.
