About the role#
Dow offers part-time Data Engineering and Data Platform Engineering internship opportunities within the Enterprise Data and Analytics organization. This is an on-site position based at the Dow Delivery Center at the University of Illinois Urbana Champaign in Research Park. The internship lasts 14 to 15 weeks during the Winter 2027 academic semester, requiring 15 to 20 hours of work per week.
What you'll do#
- Manage the ingestion, persistence, and curation of data for specific projects.
- Create data pipelines within the Azure environment.
- Design, develop, test, and implement analytics solutions.
- Identify opportunities to use digital capabilities to support Dow's digital transformation.
- Develop and implement Azure cloud-based solutions for data and AI.
- Maintain and monitor existing Azure infrastructure to ensure performance, reliability, and scalability.
- Resolve issues and implement enhancements using infrastructure as code tools like ARM, Bicep, and Terraform within Azure DevOps.
- Implement security best practices for Azure applications and infrastructure.
- Perform troubleshooting and root cause analysis for infrastructure issues.
- Collaborate with developers and senior staff to implement continuous delivery systems on Azure.
- Document best practices, workflows, and infrastructure maintenance in the DevOps Wiki.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment at the University of Illinois Urbana Champaign.
- Working toward a Bachelor's or Master's degree in a related technical field, such as Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or Industrial Engineering.
- Graduation date within one to three years.
- Ability to work legally in the United States.
- Preferred qualifications include a GPA of 3.0 or higher, experience with cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, or Azure), and familiarity with data lakehouse platforms like Databricks or Snowflake.
- Preferred technical skills include proficiency in Python, Scala, SQL, and PowerShell, as well as experience with data modeling, database management, and Power BI.
- Familiarity with Agile methodologies, version control systems, and code review practices is preferred.
