About the role#
As a summer intern with DoorDash Labs, you will own a defined hardware project focused on autonomous delivery systems. You will work in one of three areas: an on-board charger prototype, an in-house motor control circuit, or a full-power hardware test bench. You will report to the Director of Electrical Engineering and manage your project from initial requirements through design, assembly, and final bench validation.
What you'll do#
- Design, build, and bring up hardware, including schematic capture and component selection.
- Characterize your design on the bench using lab equipment to measure thermal, efficiency, and control performance.
- Collaborate with firmware, power electronics, and test engineering teams.
- Incorporate feedback from design reviews into your work.
- Document your results and present your final findings to the team.
What you'll need#
- Current pursuit of a B.S. or M.S. degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field.
- Graduation date between Fall 2027 and Summer 2028.
- Availability for a start date in May or June 2027.
- Less than 2 years of full-time work experience.
- Coursework or project experience in power electronics, including switch-mode converters, magnetics, and gate drive.
- Understanding of motor control fundamentals, including BLDC/PMSM drives and field-oriented control.
- Knowledge of analog and feedback-control fundamentals, such as op-amp sensing and stability analysis.
- Ability to capture schematics and lay out PCBs using tools like Altium or KiCad.
- Familiarity with lithium-ion battery charging and battery management systems.
- Hands-on lab experience with oscilloscopes, differential probes, power supplies, and electronic loads.
- Proficiency in Python or C/C++ for instrument automation, data acquisition, or microcontroller bring-up.
Location & details#
- This internship is located on-site at our office in Oakland, California.
- The position is a paid, full-time summer internship.
