About the role#
As a Preconstruction Estimating Intern at DN, you will gain hands-on experience in civil engineering and construction. You will work with a mentor to contribute to real projects and learn about the lifecycle of heavy-civil construction, from initial conception to completion.
What you'll do#
- Assist Regional Estimators with evaluating project site conditions.
- Create tank site layout drawings using AutoCAD.
- Prepare earthwork takeoffs using Civil 3D.
- Develop sitework cost estimates in Excel.
- Solicit bid pricing for cranes, rebar installation, fence work, and other subcontractor scopes.
- Prepare Requests for Quotation once local subcontractors are identified.
- Visit local tank construction sites.
- Learn the process of developing and bidding construction projects.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in an undergraduate Engineering or Construction Management program, with a preference for Civil Engineering.
- Experience with CAD software, specifically AutoCAD.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Word, Outlook, and Excel.
- Strong communication and time management skills.
- Ability to prioritize tasks and manage multiple assignments.
- Capability to solve problems both independently and as part of a team.
Location & details#
- This is a paid, full-time internship based on-site in Irving, Texas.
- You must be able to work from or relocate to our office in Grand Prairie.
