About the role#
As a Preconstruction Estimating Co-op, you will gain hands-on experience in civil engineering and construction. You will work with a dedicated mentor to contribute to real projects and learn about the lifecycle of heavy-civil construction from conception to completion.
What you'll do#
- Assist Regional Estimators with project site condition evaluations and generate tank site layout drawings using AutoCAD.
- Prepare earthwork takeoffs with Civil 3D and develop sitework cost estimates in Excel.
- Solicit bid level pricing for subcontractor scopes, including cranes, rebar installation, and fence work.
- Prepare Requests for Quotation once local subcontractors are identified.
- Gain insight into the process of developing and bidding construction projects.
- Visit local tank construction sites to see work in progress.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in an undergraduate Engineering or Construction Management program, with a preference for Civil Engineering.
- Experience with CAD software, specifically AutoCAD, and Microsoft Office tools like Word, Outlook, and Excel.
- Strong communication and time management skills.
- Ability to multitask and prioritize work assignments.
- Capability to solve problems both individually and as part of a team.
Location & details#
- This is an on-site role based in Irving, Texas.
- You must have reliable transportation to the office or be willing to relocate for the duration of the co-op.
- The position is a paid, full-time commitment with a rolling term.
