About the role#
Dewberry is hiring a Survey Intern for the Summer 2027 term in Gainesville, Virginia. This full-time, paid internship places you on a survey crew to gain hands-on experience with project work. You will participate in workshops, networking events, and a group project designed to help you develop technical skills and apply classroom knowledge in a professional setting.
What you'll do#
- Assist the field supervisor with daily crew operations.
- Help perform boundary, ALTA, topographic, right-of-way acquisition, transmission line, transportation, land development, and construction surveys.
- Maintain survey equipment and ensure it is kept safe.
- Keep vehicles supplied and organized for daily duty.
- Follow all safety regulations while working on site.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in an Associate or Bachelor degree program in Surveying, Civil Engineering, GIS, or Planning.
- Strong mathematical skills and basic computer proficiency.
- Good communication skills.
- A valid driver license and the ability to pass a driving record check.
- Physical ability to work outdoors on construction sites in various weather conditions, including the capacity to lift up to 50 pounds.
- Willingness to travel for extended periods.
- Knowledge of AutoCAD and previous internship experience are considered a plus.
