Summer Intern - Tool Room 5S Standardization

About the role#

This Summer 2026 internship within the Legacy Business Unit focuses on the standardization of the tooling room using 5S methodology. The objective is to create an organized, efficient, and safe workspace by ensuring that only necessary items are present, every tool has a designated location, and cleanliness is maintained consistently.

What you'll do#

• Implement 5S methodology to improve organization, reduce waste, and enhance productivity in the tooling room.
• Identify and remove obsolete tools while establishing clear visual management systems for remaining equipment and materials.
• Promote daily adherence to 5S standards among team members.
• Foster a culture of continuous improvement and accountability.
• Document and propose processes and outcomes to support future standardization initiatives.
• Demonstrate an understanding of lean manufacturing principles.

What you'll need#

• Currently enrolled in an accredited college or university seeking an undergraduate or postgraduate degree (at least sophomore status) in Mechanical, Industrial, Aerospace, or a related engineering field.
• Must reside in the United States.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
• Experience with 3D CAD software, such as SolidWorks or CATIA V5.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and synthesis capabilities.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills, with the ability to present new ideas clearly.
