About the role#
The Underwriting Corporate Internship is a 10.5-week, full-time program running from May 24, 2027, to August 5, 2027. This role provides hands-on experience in health care underwriting, risk management, and financial analysis. It serves as a primary pipeline for the Underwriting Leadership Development Program. You will work with a day-to-day manager, team mentor, and program leadership throughout the summer.
What you'll do#
- Price new and existing business to support customer retention and profitability.
- Act as a strategic partner to help manage a book of business.
- Negotiate pricing and create benefit plan designs alongside sales and account management teams.
- Collaborate with actuarial teams to refine pricing based on medical costs, trends, and customer data.
- Participate in underwriting trainings, speaker series, and solution-focused business projects.
- Engage in community service, professional development workshops, and networking with senior leaders.
What you'll need#
- Current pursuit of a Bachelor's degree with an anticipated graduation date between September 2027 and August 2028.
- Relevant coursework or experience in Economics, Statistics, Mathematics, Finance, Accounting, or related fields.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, specifically Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Word.
- Demonstrated leadership experience through student organizations, sports, or work projects.
- Strong critical thinking, communication, and problem-resolution skills.
- Experience with coding software such as VBA, R, or Python is preferred.
- Willingness to commute or relocate to the Hartford, CT office.
Location & details#
- Location: Hartford, CT.
- Modality: Hybrid. Interns are expected in the office Tuesday through Thursday, with two remote days per week.
- Compensation: $26 per hour for a 40-hour work week.
- Benefits: Includes two days of paid leave. Relocation assistance is available for candidates moving over 50 miles.
- Note: Work visa sponsorship is not available for this position.
